Mixed media monoprints
Photographing industrial buildings from the 1920’s to the 1940’s is the way I began looking at structures, surfaces, and surroundings that have been acted on by man and natural over time. In the series of mixed-media monoprints titled “Industrial”, I use a simple early industrial building form to create interactive zones; interior and exterior; aerial and terrestrial. The textural treatment of these zones is about slow disintegration and dispersion.
Although part of this series of utilitarian buildings, “Quonset” has evoked a very different response from me; pictorial images that are speedy, bold, and brash.
In addition to inks, oils of varing viscosities, and my etching press: tools and materials of a monoprintmaker, I also mix media using layered cut paper, dry pigment, graphite, paint, burns and impressions from found objects.
