Vonnie Brenno Cameron was born in Japan, raised in Hawaii and has lived in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and Galisteo. She is multi-racial – Hawaiian, Chinese and Norwegian. She attended University of Hawaii, University of Southern California and Art Center College of Design. She studied oil painting with artists Glenn Vilppu and Jan Saether. From 1972-79 she worked as art director at Ogilvy & Mather advertising in Los Angeles. Moving to New York in 1979 she began painting full-time. Her “public portraits” portrayed people in contemporary settings, capturing moments in time. Her oil paintings were featured in one-woman shows at PS Galleries in Ogunquit, Maine and Dallas, Texas; Hobe Sound Gallery, Hobe Sound, Florida Capricorn Gallery, Bethesda Maryland, and Enthios Galleries, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Palm Springs, California. Her work has appeared in Texas Art Review and American Artists. After the birth of her children, Vonnie returned to Advertising and is currently Creative Director at Pereira O’Dell. Vonnie and her husband, Gene, divide their time between Pacific Palisades, California and Galisteo.
Her current paintings focus on landscapes of Galisteo and California as well as some still life paintings and portraits in both oils and charcoal.
